Once again “anonymous” is back stirring shit up, causing drama, and seemingly attempting to intentionally create a rift in the SNM fan community. It was such a peaceful summer for the most part. I guess it was too good to last.
“Anonymous” posted a question to Scorched the Snake that clearly had “a tone” to it. I’m not sure why she felt she couldn’t post the question directly to me, or why Scorched would respond to a question intentionally designed to stir the pot. (EDIT: Not at all that I thought the question was inappropriate, but the asker of the question clearly intended to provoke, especially knowing the “anonymous” history as Scorched does.) I have always been very public in my praise of the Scorched the Snake blog and its value to the world of SNM. One of my earliest posts when I started my blog was an acknowledgment of his contributions to the community. I still feel that way.
But since this question/answer has been posted publicly, I’m going to respond in kind.
- First and foremost- The Ring. Yes, after I posted just a few days ago that it is generally a good rule of thumb not to take anything from the hotel that is not given to you, I did just that. I got caught up in an ongoing mystery, and probably should have left it if I wasn’t going to be able to do the necessary follow-up.
No good excuse for that. Mea culpa. Seriously, it was bad judgment on my part.
However, I took it well knowing that it is not a part of the narrative and therefore would NOT be missed. Plus, the plan was always to bring it back. Even in the moment, I strongly suspected that it was nothing. But since I found it while following the specific clues I have been given, I wondered.
I posted about it because this ongoing mystery has become somewhat of it’s own story in my little corner of Tumblr. I have received many questions in my in-box asking about it, most of which I don’t answer publicly because, as I have said, I will tease on this topic, but will never share the secrets I uncover. I’m a “spoiler light-to-moderate” sort of guy.
BTW - Upon doing a little more digging and homework, I am confident that this ring is completely irrelevant! So don’t get your panties in a bunch, “anonymous!”
- What you see is what you get with me. I am open and honest with my feelings, and I appreciate the same in people. I will never post anonymous questions intended to hurt or criticize other people. If I have an issue with someone, I will either respond with my name to the post, or in a private message, directly to the person.
Also, you will find that when I call out what I feel is inappropriate behavior in a recap, I am vague enough so as to not identify people to the world, but so they know who I am addressing them. It’s a fine line, I know.
- I have had many many people approach me and express appreciation for my blog, my approach to the show, and my silly masks. That is what matters to me now, and I am truly thankful for those people’s support.
That said, I am still disheartened by what seems to be a widening rift between different groups within the community. It seemed like that was pretty much a thing of the past for the past few months, but it is getting nutty again. I find it unnecessary, and it only serves to create ill-feelings. We don’t all have to be friends. But can we agree to at least be civil to one another? On Monday night I said hello to a small cluster of Tumblr folk and they literally tried to ignore me. Unnecessary.
Really. Really. Unnecessary.
